Is Tim Tebow the greatest college football player we’ve seen play in the last decade?
YES. I think it’s safe to say that his like won’t be seen for quite some time but the real question on the mind of every single pro scout in the nation is weather or not Tim Tebow is a legit NFL quarterback.
I’m still not seeing it and of course, I’m not the only one. Jimmy Johnson, famed for building one of the most dominant teams of the ’90s, believes that he will need to switch to “H-Back or Receiver” at the next level. Even NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said; “Most teams have Tebow graded out as a second or third rounder and that he will have to make some major refinements to his throwing motion if he wants to survive as a QB.”
Not only is his throwing motion as elongated and drawn out as that of Byron Leftwitch, his arm strength isn’t even on the NFL map. QBs in today’s league, who don’t have great arm strength, need to supplement that with good accuracy and a quick release. These are also two things that Tebow simply does not possess.
I’m not saying this kid doesn’t have skill, there’s just a certain set of skills a person needs to have to succeed at the next level and the kid just doesn’t have it. There’s no question that he’ll be a tremendous pro athlete in the NFL because he’s got good base strength and running skills.
I realize that he’s a leader and a coach on the field, which is all well and good but he’s even built like a fullback. I’m not going to doubt the kid’s understanding of the game and his dedication/devotion to his team either. I was just as impressed as anybody after his “Declaration of Never Losing Again” because he flat out backed it up in a big way.
There’s even supporters but while they voice their beliefs, it’s ALWAYS followed by a major caveat. Phil Simms recently told Dan Patrick; “He’s going to make it in the NFL as a quarterback [but] it’s a pretty tough road ahead. It’s not a powerful arm. It’s not quick.”
The most popular Draft rumor is that the Jacksonville Jaguars, down on their luck in ticket sales and in the win/loss column, might actually pull the trigger on Tebow with their first round pick.(Tied w/ Denver for the 10 spot) It’s just not ideal for a team that’s getting dominated in the secondary with a lack talent in a division that features Peyton Manning and Matt Schaub.
I’m not the GM of the Jaguars, or any other team for that matter, but I just can’t advocate taking Tebow as anything other than an “Athlete” with upside to do a number of different things for your team. With more and more teams featuring a wild-cat package or non-QB set, Tebow will be drafted in the 2nd round and I’ve got a feeling who might be rolling the dice.
Who has three 2nd-Round picks this year? Who has always taken the best available athlete on the board? Who loves to take a player that other teams covet? Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are sitting in an ideal situation to not only trade out to teams trying to acquire the Florida super-star but they could also take him to sit behind Tom Brady and marinate for the next few seasons.
I still don’t believe that Tebow will make it as a QB but some team will at least give him a shot and my guess is that they’ll begin thinking “H-Back, Full-Back, or Receiver” within minutes. The bottom line is that he’s not ready to play QB right away, he’ll take years of work before he is, and he may only end up being a smart utility player or backup. . . That just doesn’t garner anything more than a 3rd round grade in my books.

I could see Tim Tebow as a cross between Pat White and Dallas Clark. He can be used in the backfield as a fullback or H-back and used in wildcat packages, or split out as a slot guy like the Colts do with Dallas Clark.
He’s a good kid, a smart kid, a very athletic kid, and a hard worker, and that will keep him in the NFL, but I don’t think all the kings horses and all the kings men can fix that throwing motion.

[...] Florida QB Tim Tebow has been looking pretty rough in Senior Bowl practice thus far. Most scouts think he falls out of the first-round and I’m right there with them. I just don’t see a traditional throwing motion and he may well be stuck with some really bad habits/mechanics that will be a problem for his whole career.
